About the role
I am recruiting on behalf of a respected Australian business. We are looking for a hands-on HSEQ Officer who wants a genuine step up, with support to grow into a broader HSEQ Advisor/Lead remit over time. You will have room to shape systems, drive engagement, and deliver practical improvements, not just maintain registers.
What you’ll do
- Keep the risk register current; update/verify JSAs, SOPs and control effectiveness.
- Plan and run inspections and internal audits; issue reports and drive action close-outs (ISO 45001 aligned).
- Coordinate incident management: notifications, ICAM participation, corrective/preventive actions and verification of effectiveness.
- Govern inductions, toolbox talks and competency (matrix, evidence, expiry tracking) with supervisors.
- Maintain legal/compliance registers, consultation records and the compliance calendar (HSC minutes, regulator actions).
- Strengthen contractor management (pre-quals, onboarding, permits to work, supervision).
- Uplift isolation/LOTO, hot work and confined space permits; improve chemical management (SDS/GHS, manifests, storage/segregation).
- Partner with HR/Operations on RTW/injury management and wellbeing documentation.
- Track leading/lagging HSE KPIs and produce a clear monthly governance report/dashboard.
- Support continuous improvement: trend analysis, CAPA tracking and simple standards that stick.
- 3–5 years in HSE/WHS (Officer/Coordinator) with strong follow-through.
- Cert IV WHS (ICAM and/or internal auditor training highly regarded).
- Practical communicator who can influence without authority and close actions on time.
- Disciplined admin and systems capability (Microsoft 365; incident/audit tools; basic BI/reporting).
- Unrestricted Australian work rights, valid driver’s licence, and ability to travel to sites as required.
- Clear progression pathway with mentoring and funded training where useful.
- Chance to build and improve simple, reliable processes—real ownership, real impact.
- Supportive leadership and straightforward expectations.
- Competitive salary, super and standard benefits.
