Payroll Manager | Immediate Start | Contract
We’re working with a nationally recognised design-led professional services business to appoint an experienced Payroll Manager into a critical standalone national role.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a complex, multi-state payroll function within a highly respected Australian organisation known for its collaborative culture, high-performing teams, and commitment to operational excellence.
The role sits within Finance and partners closely with People & Culture, providing end-to-end payroll leadership across a large national workforce.
Key responsibilities include:
• Managing the end-to-end fortnightly payroll cycle across multiple Australian entities and jurisdictions
• Ensuring compliance with payroll tax, superannuation, STP2, Fair Work, workers compensation, and award obligations
• Managing terminations, redundancies, parental leave, salary sacrifice arrangements, and annual reconciliations
• Acting as the subject matter expert for payroll legislation, risk, compliance, and audit readiness
• Maintaining payroll system integrity, master data, reporting, and process documentation
• Driving consistency and capability across interstate finance stakeholders
• Partnering closely with People & Culture on employee lifecycle activities and remuneration matters
• Leading payroll-related continuous improvement initiatives and system enhancements
To be successful, you will bring:
• Extensive end-to-end payroll experience within a complex multi-state environment
• Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, payroll tax, superannuation, and Fair Work compliance
• Experience operating in a senior standalone or national payroll position
• Strong stakeholder engagement capability with the ability to influence across geographically dispersed teams
• Advanced payroll systems capability, ideally with exposure to Aurion and/or project-based ERP platforms
• High attention to detail, strong commercial judgement, and a proactive approach to problem solving
• Advanced Excel and reporting capability
Experience within professional services, architecture, engineering, consulting, or similarly complex white-collar environments will be highly regarded.
This position would suit a technically strong Payroll Manager who enjoys ownership, values accuracy and compliance, and wants to play a meaningful role within a collaborative and purpose-driven business.
