This is a great opportunity for an experienced WHS professional who is ready for more.
More ownership. More exposure. More opportunity to partner directly with the business and genuinely influence how safety is approached across a diverse national operation.
This isn't about sitting behind policies and procedures or being the person leaders only call when something goes wrong. They want someone visible, approachable and practical who can build relationships across the business and become a genuine go-to person for WHS.
You'll work across retail, warehousing, manufacturing, distribution and corporate environments, so there is plenty of variety and an opportunity to really understand the business from the ground up.
The opportunity
What I really like about this role is the scope.
You'll partner directly with operational and site leaders, the People & Culture team and senior leadership, helping build a stronger and more proactive approach to safety across the organisation.
There is already a foundation in place, but they want someone who can look at what's working, identify where things could be better and actually drive those improvements.
You'll have the opportunity to contribute to WHS strategy, improve systems and processes, lead initiatives and bring your own ideas to the table.
You'll also have a WHS Officer reporting into you, giving you the chance to coach and develop someone while continuing to build your own leadership capability.
If you've been working at Advisor or senior WHS level and you're looking for a role where you can step up, have more influence and continue developing your business partnering experience, this could be a really good next move.
What you'll be doing
- Partnering with leaders across multiple sites to identify risks and improve safety outcomes
- Becoming a trusted WHS advisor across the business
- Contributing to WHS strategy and taking ownership of key initiatives
- Leading workplace inspections, risk assessments and site visits
- Leading incident investigations through to corrective action and resolution
- Developing and continuously improving WHS systems, policies and procedures
- Providing practical advice around legislation, compliance and risk
- Using WHS data and reporting to provide meaningful insights to leadership
- Working closely with Health & Safety Representatives and site leaders
- Partnering with Return to Work Coordinators
- Developing WHS training, inductions and awareness initiatives
- Coaching and developing the WHS Officer
- Identifying better ways of doing things and driving continuous improvement
- Travelling to sites as required
What I'm looking for
For me, this isn't just about finding someone who technically knows WHS. I'm looking for someone who knows how to partner with people.
Someone who can walk onto a site and build credibility with the team, sit down with a senior leader and confidently have a conversation around risk, and then actually follow through and get things done.
You'll ideally bring:
- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety, with a Diploma or higher highly regarded
- 5+ years' experience within WHS, including experience at Advisor, Business Partner or senior level
- Experience developing and maintaining WHS management systems
- Strong incident investigation experience
- Confidence advising and influencing leaders
- Experience working across multiple sites or business units
- Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and Victorian requirements
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- The confidence to challenge when needed while still building strong relationships
- A practical, solutions-focused approach
- A current Australian driver's licence
Why I'd consider this one
This is a genuine opportunity to come into an established national business and make the role your own.
They aren't looking for someone to simply maintain what's already there. They want someone who can build relationships, understand the operation, bring ideas forward and help continue lifting WHS across the business.
You'll get exposure to a really diverse operation, work closely with People & Culture and senior leadership, have your own direct report and continue building your capability across partnering, strategy and leadership.
For someone who has the technical WHS foundation but wants their next role to give them more ownership and a bigger voice within the business, there is a lot to like about this opportunity.
