Default Author • Dec 21, 2017

Recruiters, the advancement of technology is shaking up almost every industry. Ours is no exception. In the new year, a few trends are almost certain to bring change, of varying degrees, to your work. If you want to stay competitive, it will be vital to ensure that you are aware of the major trends which are likely to reshape the way you work.

Read on to learn about the changes which may be headed for your workplace and how to stay on top of your game.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificially intelligent algorithms will become more widespread within recruitment. Although still in its infancy, the time is fast approaching when this technology will be used to shortlist and even communicate with candidates on a large scale. These developments are likely to drastically shorten and streamline the shortlisting process and as such, recruiters will need to be aware of this fact to stay competitive.

Video Intros

Videos are increasingly being used as a means of candidate profiling. These visual introductions allow potential employers to get a more personal feel for the candidate and see the face behind the CV. This technology is
already taking off and can be expected to continue doing so in 2018. As such, recruiters wishing to stay competitive should get used to the idea of incorporating the use of video into their hiring processes.

Social Media

The role of Social Media in recruitment will continue to grow in years to come. Social Media provides an excellent canvas on which to paint a company image or your own personal brand as a recruiter, and already serves as a major point of contact with potential clients and candidates. Expect this to remain and grow in importance as more and more recognise Social Media's value as a recruitment platform.

Greater Demand for High Skill

Demand for low-skilled labour will continue to be replaced by that for highly skilled employees. This trend is consistent across much of the world and reflects the increasing development of automation technology which is making low-skilled jobs less common. Recruiters should keep this in mind when sourcing candidates for positions in 2018, and always be careful to match a candidate's skill as closely as possible to their client's needs.

Authenticity

Expect that company image and your own personal brand will come to be increasingly important aspects of your work as a recruiter. More and more candidates and clients are preferring to choose companies and recruiters who have are authentic. Establishing a good reputation and capitalising upon this will be crucial going forward, as more and more of the market sees through those who pretend to be something they are not and who don't line up to the game. Think you can hide? Recruiters now have reviews online.

Reviews

Expect to see online reviews of individual recruiters more often in 2018. This is likely to become a much more common means of separating the wolves from the sheep. As a result, under-par recruiters who just don't cut it are going to have a hard time staying competitive in an increasingly competitive market. The key factor that will make you stand out as a recruiter is your authenticity, as mentioned previously.

Automation

The advancement of technology will continue to alter the makeup of the economy in 2018. Increasingly, full-time roles will be replaced by temporary or part-time positions which will require high degrees of skill and focus on non-repetitive tasks such as planning, decision-making and communication. Recruiters will increasingly need to keep this in mind when hiring for temp positions in the new year.

The unending march of technology means big changes for recruitment in 2018, but this doesn't have to be a bad thing. With new technologies come some exciting and interesting new opportunities to help you improve the way you work. Stay up to date with industry changes and new technologies and you will be able to make the most of this bountiful opportunity before everybody else does.
