The World's Most Liveable City: What That Means For Melbourne's Architects
Default Author • Sep 21, 2017

Melbourne has been considered one of the world's most liveable cities for the 7th year running according to The Economist Intelligence Unit 2017 Global Liveability Index.

Contributing to this back-to-back rating are the city's stable society, education, healthcare and of course, the world-class infrastructure.  Add to that the wealth of parks and open spaces for relaxation and play, and you'll see why Melbourne is such a desirable choice. Melbourne also ranks high in education, boasting some of the highest rated schools and universities in the world.

These prestigious ratings and enviable draw cards don't come without impact; as people recognise the benefits and flock to get their stake in the world's most liveable city.  As the City attracts people, it continues to add to the well-populated areas and increases the need for more residential and commercial building options.

With this population boom comes an increased demand for living/office space and this greater number of people will directly affect the architecture industry by necessitating more places for them to live and work.

As Melbourne architects create plans for more housing and office space, an emphasis will be placed on details such as energy efficiency, exceptional design and longevity. Since Melbourne is known for its vibrant and exciting architectural scene, the increase in population will only serve to heighten the enthusiasm of architects as they continue developing new and innovative designs that capture the essence of living and working in such a lively city.

A number of architectural projects are gaining attention, in particular the residential apartment market, distinctly designed town houses and high-end, large-scale commercial projects. The education and healthcare industries have also seen a resurgence as these job markets continue to grow, leading to new architectural developments in these industries.

Melbourne architects will continue living up to the city's reputation for architectural innovation by adhering to the high standards that have always made the city and its buildings first-rate. A focus on design rather than profit alone will ensure excellent building standards are achieved and the final projects are of the highest build quality possible.

Melbourne is also home to a number of architectural design studios. Each possesses exciting design goals, a unique identity and a strong sense of expression.  It's an ambitious industry in an ambitious, ever-growing city.

And I for one, am glad to be part of such a bustling, exciting city.

The increased need for architectural projects will also lead to career opportunities for up and coming architects. Quality studios who are focusing on the career development of their staff are providing open programs that detail how employees can progress to key roles in the industry. This enables architects to concentrate on continuous career development which in turn, leads to constant innovation and attention to the latest design trends.

As Melbourne's population continues to grow, so will the need for new residential and commercial building options. One contributing factor is the wide range of small practices whose architects are not afraid to experiment with new designs while staying true to the city's great appeal.

If you're looking for an amazing city in which to live and work where lots of opportunity awaits you, choose Melbourne and see why it is considered the 'World's Most Liveable City'.  You'll find a thriving architectural industry with opportunity for growth and innovation that can't be beat.  Reach out to me if I can help you with any Architecture recruitment advice on
