Q&A with Ben Birthisel

Ben arrived at Morgan as Recruitment Resourcer in our Scoresby office, and we could not be more wrapped.

A quiet achiever who pulls no punches, Ben has had an illustrious career in AFL with North Melbourne Football Club - spending over 12 years working in elite sport recruitment. 🏉

With AFL still firmly in his bones with a love of the sport, Ben has a background in Human Resources after completing a Bachelor of Business and a Grad Certificate in Human Resources Management. Talk about the right guy for this job or what!

And who is Ben's other love? Well, that's his groodle, Lola! But don't tell his wife!! 😉

This country lad also loves facilitating opportunities between great people and great clients... but  what makes Ben tick? Have a read through below to learn more.

What led you to work in recruitment?

I come from a recruitment background in the sporting industry and have always enjoyed facilitating opportunities between people. Working in elite sport, I recognised the importance of cultural fit and fitting in within the team as much as matching technical skills. 

What attracted you to working at Morgan?

I was approached by Morgan’s Kate de Young through Linkedin in the same way any prospective candidate might be and was really impressed with her communication, transparency and responsiveness. A good friend who previously worked at Morgan told me it was a great organisation with a strong people-focused culture and speaking to Kate emphasised that.  

What is your expertise at Morgan? How many years of experience do you have in this area? How would I describe what I do to someone completely unfamiliar with my field?

I joined Morgan in June 2022 having spent over 12 years working in recruitment in an elite sporting organisation. When speaking with someone unfamiliar with the recruitment industry, I describe my role as sourcing and matching candidates to employers seeking to fill vacancies. 

What roles do you typically recruit into?

Business Support, HR and Sales. 

What do I want to be professionally known for?

Being a personable, driven and hard working individual and genuinely passionate about helping people.

What can people expect me to bring to the table?

A strong work ethic, transparency, and a calming and rational demeanour. 

What do I love most about what I do?

Facilitating opportunities between great people and great clients.

What are you passionate about, personally?

Health, fitness, wellbeing, and AFL football. That includes heading home to Benalla (where I grew up) to get some fresh country air as often as possible

What is something many people don't know about you?

That the love of my life isn’t actually my wife… it’s my dog Lola. I spend most of my spare time with my dog!
